Reykjavík, Iceland
UNESCO Creative City of Literature (2011)

Reykjavík was designated a UNESCO Creative Cities Network City of Literature in 2011 in recognition of its strong literary heritage and active contemporary writing culture. The city is closely associated with the medieval Icelandic sagas and today supports a large community of writers, publishers, and readers relative to its size. Through the Reykjavík City of Literature programme, the city promotes literature through festivals, residencies, libraries, translation initiatives, and international collaboration.
