UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts
Hamar was designated a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts in 2021, recognizing its strong game and XR development community as well as its rich and diverse cultural scene. At the University of Inland Norway, Hamar campus, the Game School offers bachelor’s and master’s programmes, along with a joint PhD in artistic research in film and audiovisual art. The city is also home to several cultural institutions such as the Anno Museum, Kulturhuset and Kunstbanken, as well as the national VRINN Immersive Learning Cluster, the Nordic VR Forum, and The Gathering, in addition to a fantastic selection of concerts and an impressive range of cultural festivals.
